Surgeons work at the center in Russia. |
Small Bone Innovations Inc. (SBi) is extending its surgeon education and training at a center in Siberia, Russia for five more years. Through Sbi, the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center for Restorative Traumatology & Orthopedics will train at least 70 surgeons each year. The company will also sponsor a six week fellowship twice a year for surgeons who want to further advance their training in limb salvage and severe lower limb trauma and deformity correction. According to A.N. Diachkov, acting general director of the center, the program will help surgeons become proficient in using new external fixation technology in lower limb construction, which will help to avoid amputation and limb lengthening.
SBi has been busy this year. In March, it was ranked as a top VC company by Dow Jones and has since been involved in several deals to expand its business in Asia. --Maria Fontanazza
