In a nearly $123 million anticipated deal, Medtronic will be acquiring Osteotech. The purchase will add to Medtronics Biologics' bone healing portfolio and allow Medtronic to expand into joint reconstruction, foot, ankle, and sports medicine. Osteotech has several products in regenerative medicine, including MagniFuse bone grafts and Plexur biocomposites, which are used in musculoskeletal procedures. According to Medtronic's GM of its Biologics business, the company sees a significant opportunity to bring more biologics and regenerative therapies to patients over the next 10 years. Regenerative medicine has been a growing area of interest among companies for its ability to provide more advanced ways of healing patients and treating damaged joints.
