The orthopaedics manufacturing capital gears up for OrthoTec, a two-day manufacturing event.

A new trade show is debuting in the heart of the orthopaedics manufacturing industry. On May 12 and 13, the OrthoTec exposition and conference comes to the Orthopaedic Capital Center at Grace College in Winona Lake, IN. Nearly 125 leading suppliers will be exhibiting the latest products and resources. In addition, employees of orthopaedics and medical device manufacturers will receive free admission to the exposition and conference. An estimated 1000 industry professionals are expected to attend the event.

As the orthopaedics industry is faced with increasing competition, pressure, and demands, now is a more important time than ever to network with industry colleagues. At the exhibition, visitors can find a complete range of equipment and services to meet their needs.

Exhibiting suppliers serve the orthopaedics market in a variety of areas, including implants for the hips, knees, shoulders, and spine, as well as arthroscopic instruments, orthopaedic soft goods, rehabilitation equipment, and sports medicine.
Exhibitors have expertise in a variety of areas, including assembly and automation; cleanroom and sterilization; CAD software and rapid prototyping; CNC machine tools and lasers; and metal anodizing and finishing. Firms with knowledge in surface preparation, treatment, and analysis, as well as testing, inspection, and quality assurance products will be on hand. Attendees can also find the latest technologies for implant machining, instrument manufacturing, laser processing, and precision metal and plastic components inside the expo hall.

The OrthoTec conference will give attendees the chance to meet experts in the industry and within academia as well as learn about processes, technologies, and regulatory issues within their fields. Attendees will have networking opportunities at lunch and during session breaks.

On May 12, session topics will cover healthcare reform, manufacturing for next-generation implants, and new product commercialization. An interactive panel will discuss the emerging role of biologics and nanotechnology in orthopaedics research and development.

The following day will include a session on emerging materials and their applications as well as best practices within testing. During the afternoon, attendees will learn about the latest technologies for analyzing implant surfaces (see the sidebar, “What’s on the Surface Counts”). The conference track will be followed by a panel discussion.
